OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared important news about the future of artificial intelligence. In his Twitter, he announced the release of new models-GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 and spoke about the company's strategy.
GPT-4.5: The last step before the big leap
The next update will be GPT-4.5, known internally under the code name Orion. This model will be the last in the line without complex chain of reasoning mechanisms. After that, OpenAI will focus on more integrated and intelligent systems.
GPT-5: A new era of AI
GPT-5 will combine cutting-edge technologies, including features from the o3 model and other innovations such as:
- Voice input and interaction
- Canvas - mode
- Advanced search capabilities
- Deep Research Function
- (Possible) Operator and other tools
A single system instead of multiple models
OpenAI is going to simplify interaction with AI by eliminating the complex choice between models. The new approach will allow the system to independently determine when deep analysis is needed and when a quick response is needed. As Altman put it: "We hate the drop-down list with models as much as you do."
Access to GPT-5: free for everyone
The most unexpected news is that GPT-5 will be available for free in standard mode for all ChatGPT users. Subscribers, in turn, will get access to advanced features and improved model intelligence.
When to wait for the update?
Sam Altman hinted that the release will take place in the coming weeks or months, not years. This means that OpenAI is preparing to introduce updates in the first half of 2025.
