According to information from MacRumorsApple plans to introduce the fourth-generation iPhone SE as early as next week, although the release was originally scheduled for March. Three years have passed since the release of the previous version, and during this time the market for mid-range smartphones has changed significantly.
Despite the dominance of the flagship iPhone models 14 and 15, which remain Apple's best-selling devices over the past two years, the company still continues to develop the SE line, aimed at a more affordable segment. This release is intended to give the new iPhone SE the opportunity to stand out before the next flagship phones are released in the fall, as well as attract attention before the Mobile World Congress in March.
However, the question remains: will the new SE be able to attract buyers who are increasingly opting for smartphones with advanced cameras and powerful processors? Preliminary data on the model's characteristics leave mixed impressions.
What is known about the characteristics of the iPhone SE 4:
- Camera: One 48-megapixel camera is the same sensor as the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, but with a 2x optical zoom limit.
- Display: the absence of Dynamic Island, instead of which — a classic cutout, like the iPhone 14.
- Processor: the latest A18 chip, presumably with overclocking, which may affect energy efficiency.
- Memory: a basic version with 128 GB of memory is expected, but there are rumors about a variant with 64 GB.
- New technologies: for the first time in the SE line, there will be a modem of Apple's own production, USB-C support, as well as IP68 protection against dust and moisture.
We will soon find out if the rumors about the presentation are true. One thing is clear: Apple still sees potential in affordable smartphones, despite the trend towards a premium market.
