Green entrepreneurs and eco-friendly electricity tariffs to be introduced in Uzbekistan

An initiative to support environmentally responsible businesses will be launched in Uzbekistan. A presidential decree under the state program for 2025 provides for the introduction of the status of "green entrepreneur" and the introduction of special tariffs for electricity from renewable sources.

Green Entrepreneur Status

From September 1, 2025, the platform for assigning this status to business entities will start working. It can be obtained by companies that::

  • introduce environmentally friendly technologies;
  • use energy saving measures;
  • minimize the negative impact on the environment.

The main criteria for assigning the status include:

  • greening — creation of "green belts" around enterprises, use of drip and container (bag) irrigation;
  • energy saving — use of energy-efficient equipment;
  • environmental control — implementation of online monitoring to prevent emissions and other violations;
  • circular economy — implementation of the "7R" principles (recycling, reuse and other measures).

Benefits for green entrepreneurs:

  • priority access to public procurement and construction services through the Schaffof Kurilish platform;
  • temporary exemption from environmental inspections;
  • support when entering international markets;
  • additional points in the Business Sustainability Rating.

Introduction of "green" tariffs

Starting from April 1, 2025, the country will introduce preferential tariffs for electricity generated from renewable sources. They will be valid for:

  • entrepreneurs who generate electricity from biogas, waste, solar and wind installations;
  • individuals who use solar panels and sell surplus electricity to the state.

The Prosecutor General's Office has been instructed to monitor the implementation of plans for the installation of solar panels, and the Ministry of Energy together with the khokimiyats will develop a program for their implementation in various regions.

Since 2023, a system of "green energy" certificates confirming the generation of 1000 kWh of environmentally friendly electricity is already in effect in Uzbekistan. These certificates are freely available and can be transferred between owners.

The new initiative is aimed at stimulating environmentally responsible business and developing renewable energy in the country.
