Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov met with First Vice-President of Gazprombank of Russia Ekaterina Salugina-Sorokova. During the talks, prospects for a joint project aimed at adapting the Uzbek economy to water and climate challenges and green transformation were discussed.
The initiative is scheduled to be implemented in 2025-2026. The Russian side proposed to conduct joint scientific research to develop sound strategies for medium - and long-term adaptation to changing water and climate conditions.
The report notes that the preparation of practical recommendations will help strengthen the competence of Uzbek expert centers in the field of analysis of climate and water problems, as well as serve as a basis for scientific cooperation between the countries.
Aziz Abdukhakimov stressed that this project can become a key platform for research cooperation, knowledge and technology exchange in the Central Asian region. In this regard, it was proposed to create a working group and organize a study visit to the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change (Green University) to interact with specialists in the field of water resources management.
Based on the results of the research, the parties will develop a "Strategy for adapting the economy of Uzbekistan to changes in water and climate conditions until 2050".
