The level of poverty and income of the population in Uzbekistan: results of 2024

According to the Statistics Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the poverty rate in the country decreased from 11% in 2023, which allowed 719 thousand people to get out of poverty. The largest decrease was recorded in Bukhara and Samarkand regions, where the poverty rate decreased by 3.1 percentage points-to 8.7% and 7.5%, respectively. There is also a decrease in poverty in Namangan region and the Republic of Karakalpakstan, where this indicator was 7.6% and 10.8%.

Analysis of the income structure of the population showed positive changes: real incomes increased by 10.7%, averaging 2.1 million soums per month. The main sources of income were wages, social benefits and income from agriculture. Wages increased by 12.9% compared to the previous year, which is associated with the employment of 5.1 million people. Particularly high income growth is observed in the Ferghana and Bukhara regions, where incomes increased by 19.1% and 11.4%, respectively. In the capital, the average income of the population was 3.6 million soums.

The implementation of a pilot project in Saikhunabad district of Syrdarya region has shown the effectiveness of using household plots to increase income. As a result of the implementation of 326 thousand micro-projects, household incomes from agriculture increased by 14.7%.

Thus, Uzbekistan continues to show significant progress in combating poverty and improving the standard of living of the population, emphasizing the importance of systemic reforms and supporting local initiatives.
